When I started working on this track my sole thought was I want to give everyone who pre-ordered the EP a really dark track that represents exactly what I am trying to say as an artist. I thought about what had been happening with the Baltimore riots, about society in general, and the way we so frivolously take life. So some will listen to the chorus and think when I say, "Bought a bitch like you as a perfect crime" that it is demeaning to women. It has nothing to do with women, nothing. However, sometimes there's no better word and in this case, it fit. We are the bitch, we are the ones who take it out on each other. We cannot see the forest for the trees. Your brother is not your enemy but he becomes that if you cannot navigate between the lies you're fed at 6 o'clock every night. The sensationalist nightly news, it's pretty when you paint it with a criminal smile.
lyrics
I don't know where the bottom goes
In the streets at night where no one's home
Yeah you're looking so tired and you're looking so weak
Let's tear down the walls while the city sleeps
I don't care what your Daddy says
Pull your hair down, jet black lips to bed
Yeah you're feeling so wired and you're looking so high
It's pretty when you paint it with a criminal smile
Time to say goodnight goodnight my darling
I don't wanna ask you one more time
I don't wanna say you're nothing special
Bought a bitch like you as a perfect crime
Say goodnight when you take it away
Sitting all alone with nothing to say
I don't wanna be your second best
All or nothing, fuck the rest

After I discovered GUNSHIP with UNICORN, I went through all their material in a rush. They're whole discography is great, and I think this is the greatest. This album haunts me. I can't listen to it once. Even if I turn it off, I still hear it echoing in the back of my mind. GUNSHIP has a mastery of the bridge that reaches the level of mastery in this album that's just unrivaled. If you get only one album from GUNSHIP, get this one. Mailanka
Memories and Comeback Kid were my first introduction to this band. From then on - I've always gone to the Midnight for easy listening. Waiting for a bus - Standing in line - Going grocery shopping and pretty much everywhere and anywhere. You can listen to this track over and over again and I feel like it doesn't get old. solstra
